2. Cookies

The website uses ‘cookies’, which are small text files placed on your computer, smartphone or similar for the purpose of recognising the computer and remembering settings, collecting statistics and targeting advertisements. Cookies cannot contain malicious code such as viruses.

2.1 What are cookies?
A cookie is a small text file which is stored on your computer. Cookies may contain text and figures, including, for example, dates. Cookies are not programs and do not contain viruses or similar malicious codes. Cookies enable a website to store specific information on the user’s computer so that the website can later recognise the user or retrieve account or user data. This might, for example, be login details, information on previous visits, and which parts of the website you have visited.

Cookies can only be read by the address (website) from which they are stored. Ordinary cookies, which are downloaded from the website, are usually stored from the address which is displayed in the browser address bar. However, a website can also contain fragments of text and data which is downloaded from different addresses to that displayed in the browser’s address bar. This might, for example, be banner ads or analysis tools, but also ordinary content. In this way, it is also possible to store cookies from other addresses via the website you happen to be visiting – so-called third-party cookies.

Some cookies – session cookies – are only kept for the duration of the browser session, and they are erased when the browser is closed. Other cookies – so-called persistent cookies – are stored for a pre-defined period of time, and are not deleted until this period has expired.
